HOLIDAY HAIR

Hi Lovelies!


While I enjoyed my flexi-rod set from last week, the ridiculous amount of product (Jane Carter Solutions Wrap & Roll) that I used lead to my hair being a tad matted and dry. So what did I do? Kept it movin’.

Ugh. I know. *shakes head* Bad ChocolateOrchid. Baaaadd. I know. What was I thinking? Most likely, I did this because I had a lot of holiday activities going on. On top of which, I was determined to find a cute, in-my-budget dress to wear on New Year’s Eve, so a good bit of my thoughts and time was spent searching on that. Did I want to do something special with my hair for NYE? Of course! Initially, I wanted to wear it straight, but after being honest with myself decided to toss the idea and wear it up. Since I only get my hair straightened twice a year, at most, I knew that getting it straightened only to sweat it out partying would be a waste of time and/or money.  And yes. I danced the New Year in just like that.  Sweating it out. Lol. So what did I do? I dampened it. Added condish, butter and gelly (Hairveda Whipped Gelly) to it to put it in a bun with a front bump.

Might look cute, but felt deadly. When I finally put in an effort to do something with it, my hair was threatening to lock up. Yes. Why? Because I didn’t fully comb out the curls before putting it into a bun. I just dampened it and threw it into a bun. So Sunday night, I loaded (and I mean loaded) my hair with lots of detangling conditioner (Paul Mitchell The Detangler, Curl Junkie Curl Assurance Daily Hair Conditioner and some of the leave-in) along with the help of jojoba and grapeseed oils and my spritz mix and slowly (and sometimes painstakingly) unraveled and detangled. Whew! Never. Ever. Again.

Because my hair was so dry, I ended up leaving this mix in my head overnight as a means to revive it. So as you can see, I went back to a method called, “baggying”. Baggying is basically, applying conditioner, oils or some type of moisturizer to the hair and then covering it with a plastic cap. Usually overnight as a means of retaining or imparting more moisture to the hair. The plastic bag traps in the heat giving your hair the added moisture that it needs.

Last night, I finally washed it and all the other stuff out with Curls Clarifying Shampoo. Then did a condish rinse with Jane Carter Solutions Nutrient Replenishing Conditioner . And “Awwwwwhh.” My hair feels so much better. As I type this post, I currently have my hair in five plaits to stretch and allow it to dry some. I’ll twist it up or do whatever comes to my mind, sometime tomorrow. =)

Hola Beautiful Ones!

I hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. And if you don't celebrate it, I hope that you had some wonderful days off. For Black Friday, I hit up Sage Naturalceuticals and purchased Komaza Care's Intense Moisture Therapy for a deep treatment. I'm all out of my tried and true Hairveda SitriNilla Deep Conditioner, so I'm giving this one a whirl. I've used Komaza Care's Hair Nourishment Oil and loved it. So I expect nothing less from this product. I'll definitely let you all know what I think about it. I'm already lovin' the scent. But I'll save all that for my official review of the product.

And yes. That was all I purchased. Now don't go to thinking that I'm so good and was all that restrained. It was simply a matter of this is what I can afford right now. Trust me. If I had had the room in my budget, I would've purchased a styling butter (for twists/braids) since I'm just about out and about 2 to 3 oils. Winter time brings out the oil-rinser in me. Not to mention having to stay on top of sealing my ends and my skin after getting out of the shower.

This is my attempt to do mini-twists in my hair. A part of my goal was to do a protective style that I could do buns, ponytails and updo's with. The other part of my reason behind this style was to give me enough time for my stand-alone hairdryer and flat iron to arrive. That's of course, after they've been order. Lol. And lastly, because I wanted something different.

Now as you can see, they are small-er, but not so mini. Lol.

Well, actually some of them are mini and some are not. I ended up re-twisting a couple in the back because they were way too thick. I think that they are still a bit too big but "Oh, well". I'm not doing this over.

I had actually wanted to wear my hair straight for the holidays but given that it rained some, I'm not bummed out about it. However, I'm wanting to sport the straight look for New Year's Eve. Where ever I go to celebrate and bring in the new year, I envision myself wearing a dress similar to this one on Halle along w/straight tresses.  

Catch is, because I only straighten my hair twice (at most) a year, it's bound to "blow up" on me in a party type setting. Thus negating all the time spent on straightening it in the first place. Haha! It's cool though. I'll deal with it.

MY NEW BFF

Remember my issues that I was having with my hair.

Well, the solution has been found!

Whether she knows it or not, one of my family members reminded me of the number one moisturizer - water. Thanks Pam! The summer weather was wreaking havoc on my hair before I began incorporating more of it into my regimen, . Now, I’ve upped my application of it to daily.

• Water: One-fourth of the weight, of a strand of hair, is made up of water. Water makes your hair supple and soft therefore you should have enough water. Water keeps your hair silky and shiny as well. *from iloveindia.com

Well, on top of having a wonderful shower filter, I’ve upped my application of water to my hair. I believe that’s all I needed to do. So every day, I put my head under the showerhead if but for a few seconds. When I do this, I make sure that the water is cool/cooler to ensure that my hair cuticles lay down. Sometimes I wet my hair a little. Sometimes I go ahead and give it a good rinse. And sometimes I full out co-wash it. It all depends on how active I’ve been and how I’m wearing my hair.

I can definitely tell you that my tresses are lovin’ it. After it’s been wetted, I apply a conditioner and/or butter. For my buns, I’ve been topping my hair with the Hairveda Whipped Gelly. Forget hair gels, I’m so lovin’ this stuff! And of course, I end by sealing my hair with an oil or pomade. Btw, if I use a leave-in conditioner I top it with the gelly and seal with an oil. If I use a butter (Qhemet Biologics Burdock Root Butter Cream), I top that with a pomade like Qhemet's Amla Oil Nourishing pomade. And yes, if I’m wearing my hair in a bun or smoothed down, I cover it with a scarf for a few minutes to allow it to set.


I’ve also brought back Apple Cider Vinegar Herbal Tea rinse to my regimen. I posted more about it here and here. The ACV helps to seal your cuticles, normalize your hair’s ph and make it shiny. Gotta love it!


So glad my hair is back to normal.

STUMBLED UPON 'DO

Hope all is well with everyone. And that you all had an awesome fourth.

Aside from celebrating the holiday, I did exactly what I mentioned that I would do on last Tuesday. I purchased a couple of products from the Hairveda sale. I bought the Sitrinillah Deep Conditioner, cause I’m totally out and loooove this DC. I  also purchased a detangling comb (As if I really needed another one, but it is different from the ones I already have. So there, I needed it. Lol.) I also purchased some more Hairveda Whipped Gelly. I promise you the more I use it, the more I love it.

I also did some shopping at Sage Naturalceuticals. So happy that I can find & purchase products that I normally would only be able to purchase online. From there, I purchased Uncle Funkys Daughters Curly Magic. I tested it on a few strands and was very impressed. I’ll probably try it all over in a week or so. I also purchased Donna Marie’s Miracurl Curling Gelly and Donna Marie’s Miracurl Leave-In Conditioner and Detangler. I know. I went a little crazy. To tell you the truth, I was a little embarrassed to do so. The owner, Cindy, was so helpful and nice.

Why did I buy two curl defining products? Well…What had happened wuz... my daughter told me that she wanted her braids out (Just had those girls put in a couple of weeks ago so that’s not happening til the end of this month.) so that she could wear her hair curly. And I got a lil excited because 98% of the time she is adamant about wearing her hair straight but suddenly she wants to wear her hair in its natural texture. (grins) Check this. This is the same young lady who wanted to write a personal blog entitled “Forced To Go Natural”. Lol.

So you see why I got a tad excited? I was just estatic that she has embraced her hair. *Grins from ear to ear*

Anyhoo, I actually intended to talk about my hair on last week. I was actually going for a flat-twist side bun. Unfortunately, it did not go well. I thought that I could manage getting my parts straight but that never happened. *If anyone has any suggestions please send them my way. So I ended up putting the ends on rollers and hopped under my beat up table-top dryer in hopes of working my hair into some type of curly fro. Was invited to a party so I was trying to dry my hair as quickly as possible. I ended up not having enough time so I just figured I’d roll with whatever came of my do’.

And lo and behold….

Looking for sumthing,huh?...Me too, dammit! I'm so frustrated. My camera (which is old) only works w/my daughter's laptop. Unfortunately, it can be slow. But what really pisses me off is that once I've uploaded them to her computer, I'm unable to get them attached to an email to send to myself. Boo.
Bottom line: add newer camera to wishlist

Anyhoo. I was rather happy with the outcome and got a lot of compliments. It pretty much came out like a Twist and Curl. And yes, I will be trying it again very soon.
