Hello
I'm hoping someone (with more experience at this than me) can help. I'm a UK citizen currently working in the US. I'm paid in cash and have been paying this into a US bank account. I finish my contract and head back to the UK in a month or so, and would prefer to keep my money in US dollars at the moment (until I can get a good exchange rate).
As I'm not getting any interest on the money, I would like to invest it in some Apple stock. I have researched this but cannot seem to find the best way of doing this. It seems I have to be a US citizen for most brokers to help me? And I'd rather use US brokers instead of UK as my money is in a US bank account.
If anyone has any advice as to how I as a british citizen can invest USD into a US company that would be great.

The Northern Line isn't too bad on that front. The worst line is definitely the Metropolitan, on which you sometimes find it difficult to stay in your seat it jumps around so much.

I know that mactheripper allows you to set the region to anything you like, including "all", when you rip. Maybe give that a shot. As far as why it's slow in handbrake, I'm not sure. I've only done it on a Mac Pro with multiple discs. Perhaps there's a read/write traffic jam on the HDD, since when you convert straight from the DVD it reads from the DVD and writes to the HDD.

I had that problem too. But then I have no repercussion though - i hacked OSX.2 to hell.
On the other hand, Panther seems to be pretty good on its own so i have yet to hack it.

Okay, so perhaps the title is a bit vague.
I've enabled the lock rotation/mute switch plist mod on my iPhone 4. However, when using the switch as a rotation lock switch, there's a blank black icon in my multitasking menu where the "Mute on/off" button should be.
Could somebody SSH/iFile/whatever the icons for the multitasking mute on/off button for me and send them this way? Likely to be in:
"/System/Library/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app"
The rotation lock icon is under the name, "RotationLockButton-iphone.png" and "RotationUnlockButton-iphone.png" if that helps at all.

I need a program to start designing my website and need help with which is the best one to choose. I have been using ekm for it but it's too expensive for my needs as this is a hobby. I need to be able to design a website offline and just upload it when needed. I have virtually no budget to spend but don't mind paying a one off fee to get what I want just don't want to be paying every month. I need it to look classy and the big thing for it is I need to able to sell my items online through a shopping cart as I have alot of items at different weights and sizes etc and need to be able to set all this up quite easily. I've done many websites before just not using a mac but I haven't got loads of time to put into it unfortunately. Can anyone give me some suggestions of programs I can look at.

my answer is yes and no. I'll explain if this puzzles you.
Yes, I did make my Lion a major OS of use on my main machine.
No, I did not upgrade my Snow Leopard installation.
What I did was install it on a partition on a secondary drive in my tower, but I tend to use lion and the snow leopard partitions equally. I usually end up switching back and forth after a week or so of using each. both contain most of the same programs and bookmarks so I can easily do some work no matter which side i'm on, thankfully I haven't had too many issues with programs not working in lion. I did a clean install of lion DP1 and then wiped that and did a clean install of DP2 and have since just done the recommended updates. so yes, I did upgrade my main machine to lion, and no I don't use lion as my sole OS.

Given that Apple seem to favour ATI chips for their high-end laptops I think that this is quite an interesting announcement. We may well see this chip in future PowerBooks. What is really interesting about this chip is that is supports Avivo.
What is so interesting about Avivo? Avivo supports hardware H.264 (http://www.ati.com/technology/h264.html) decode acceleration. This could mean that next-generation PowerBooks can decode full 1080p HD content. Probably at under 50% CPU usage.

It's a shame Lightroom isn't on the images of the machines at the Apple Store.
as far as apple is concerned Aperture is the only only option. Thats why they don't sell LR, it's a competing product.
Anyway, difficult question to answer. On paper the MBP looks better, but the SSD in the MBA might mean it's quicker. The biggest bottleneck for performance is the hdd, so speeding it up will help.

Yes, this is most disapointing. I have been wanting this app on my iPad ever since I got one. This is even more glaring since you can't even access Apple's own MobileMe site from the iPad - which is another rant entirely. :mad:

I went by the store today to try and find out a rough number of how many non-reserved phones they would have. I couldn't get a number of course, the lady did say that the Reston Town Center security would run people off that were lined up before 5am. Not sure if that will really happen or just what they are told to tell customers.....the official answer.

I have a 1TB WD Caviar Black drive as an external and I'm glad they put in the Seagate in mine.
My Caviar Black is fast, but it's a lot of clicking and seeking.
I also have a Caviar Green and a Caviar Blue, the green being my favorite as it's pretty silent.
I can't hear my Seagate drive at all even when transferring documents at full tilt.
I have to say, I'm used to SSDs but I think I'll be OK with this drive until Lion is released and hopeful the Intel SSD 320s drop in price and I get the nerve up to open this baby up and do some surgery... :rolleyes:
