My Quest for Optimal Health

I am so excited about my quest to go raw! As I've mentioned before, I have no desire to be a diabetic (as is my mother and her mother and grandmother were) so I am seeking to be as healthy as I possibly can. In my opinion and research a raw foods diet is the best choice for me.

What is a raw food diet?... A raw foods diet is the consumption of organic, whole plant-based foods that are uncooked. They are considered raw and alive. These live foods contain a wide range of vital life force nutrients (i.e. vitamins, minerals, amino acids, oxygen) and live enzymes a lot of which is said to be lost in our usual cooking process (once cooked food can lose up to 85% of its nutritional value). Their nutritional properties are essential to the proper maintenance of our bodily functions. A raw foodists diet is usually at least 75% raw, though some have diets that consists of 100% raw foods. My goal is to eat somewhere between 80 - 90% raw foods.

Followers of a raw diet cite numerous health benefits, including:
increased energy levels
improved appearance of skin (who doesn't want that)
improved digestion
weight loss
reduced risk of heart disease
improved immune system
alleviation of many illnesses and allergies
etc., etc.

Tonight, I'm meeting w/a raw food chef and health coach to learn more about becoming a raw foodist. Can't wait to post about it!

What about you? What's your plan for a healthy lifestyle?...
